Trade and Security Symposium II: Security, Commerce and Foreign Direct Investment in Canada
Canadian trade, commerce and investment activities face an array of security challenges. The rules-based global trading system is in crisis and Canada faces protectionist pressure from various trading partners. Unprecedented cyber-threats and foreign investments in sensitive technologies have increasingly become a concern of government and the private sector. Further, policymakers face new challenges balancing security considerations with the role of foreign investors in supporting and commercializing science and innovation.

This conference will bring together experts from government, academia, and the business community to provide insight into how Canada can confront such challenges and secure its trade and investment relationships. Our panelists will explore issues such as:

• Canada in a disrupted global, rules-based system
• FDI and Canadian security
• Cyber-threats and responses in Canada
• Political risks and the security of trade
• R&D and security
