Donate to the Suzanne Kanuka Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Sociology
Thank you for your support of the establishment of a scholarship for a graduate student in Sociology studying issues around Mental Health and Wellness.
The Suzanne Kanuka Memorial Graduate Scholarship was established in honor of Suzanne Kanuka, who passed away at the age of 26, a bright life cut short. Suzanne was most recently a Master’s student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary.
Suzanne developed a love of learning at an early age which continued her whole life as she consistently excelled in academics. She was exceedingly conscientious, dedicated and hard-working, but it was her gentle good nature and beautiful spirit that endeared her to so many. Suzanne was a genuinely kind person who never hesitated to lend her support and encouragement to others. She was a true advocate for those most in need, as reflected in her volunteer work and support of charitable causes. Suzanne faced many challenges in her life, the last and most devastating was her battle with mental illness, but with remarkable courage she persevered in her studies and continued to display kindness and selflessness in her daily life. She will be deeply missed.
This scholarship seeks to commemorate Suzanne’s spirit by assisting a graduate student in the Department of Sociology to pursue research in the area of Mental Health and Wellness, with the hope of one day helping others experiencing similar struggles to herself.
