University of Calgary Student Caller Application Form

The Student Calling Program is the core for telephone fundraising at the University of Calgary, and is committed to providing an excellent opportunity for University employment for eligible current students. Student Callers communicate with alumni and community members on the phone in a respectful and professional manner to foster engagement and nurture a continuous and positive pattern of giving at the University of Calgary.

The Student Calling program is second only to the alumni magazine as the primary way to engage and inform University of Calgary alumni about campus events and fundraising priorities. The philanthropic relationships built with our donors through the Student Calling program have great impact on participation in Annual Giving programs, as well as Major and Legacy Giving initiatives.

This position requires commitment to a minimum of two (2) flexible weekly shifts per week.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Student Caller acts as an ambassador of the university, demonstrating courtesy, tact and professionalism both over the phone and in the workplace. The Student Caller is responsible for updating University of Calgary alumni contact information, providing updates, addressing questions or concerns, and raising money for UCalgary. Annual funds secured support key areas of need, such as as scholarships, bursaries, experiential learning opportunities, enhancements to or the creation of new learning spaces on-campus, and health and wellness initiatives.

 

Requirements

  • Must be a current student registered in a University of Calgary program
  • Polished telephone manner, good communication and active listening skills
  • Personable students who are enthusiastic and passionate about UCalgary
  • Able to work independently in a team-oriented environment
  • Sense of pride and affinity for supporting the University of Calgary through fundraising
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, reliable and demonstrates a willingness to learn
  • Previous call center or fundraising experience an asset but not required
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Accountabilities

  • Act as an ambassador for the University of Calgary, demonstrating friendly and professional conduct;
  • Contact and engage with UCalgary alumni and donors over the phone to inform them of university developments, initiatives, events of interest, and alumni benefits;
  • Verify alumni records and communication preferences to ensure we have up-to-date contact information in our database;
  • Make a clear and strong case for philanthropic support to inspire new and renewed giving to the university;
  • Respond to questions and/or concerns in a tactful and sensitive manner;
  • Capture specialized notes and use appropriate coding for each record contacted;
  • Work efficiently towards set dollar and participation targets for the program to achieve institutional goals;
  • Handle all alumni and donor information with extreme confidentiality;
  • Commit to a minimum of 6-9 hours (2-3 shifts) per week;
  • Adhere to the terms outlined in the SCP Staff Agreement;
  • Manage academic workload and job hours;
  • Regularly check your ucalgary.ca email to keep up with internal communications and work-related announcements;
  • Contribute positively to a productive and supportive work environment.
