Donate to the Dr. Leslie Kawamura Graduate Scholarship in Buddhist Studies

The Dr. Leslie Kawamura Graduate Scholarship in Buddhist Studies was established in memory of the eponymous distinguished professor of Buddhist Studies at the University of Calgary. Dr. Kawamura was born in Raymond, Alberta; following graduate training at Kyoto University, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. After graduating in 1976 he spent his 35-year academic career at the University of Calgary, until his death in 2011. A scholar in the demanding discipline of Yogācāra Buddhism, his numerous academic accomplishments and accolades included receiving the Order of the University of Calgary, co-founding the Buddhist Section of the American Academy of Religions, and establishing the endowed Numata Chair in Buddhist Studies at the University of Calgary. During his career he supervised many graduate students, and this graduate scholarship was created in order to recognize and further his dedication to the training of scholars in Buddhist studies.
