General Net Community

Which browser should I use when visiting your site?
Our site is designed to function with Microsoft Internet Explorer. Use of other browsers may result in undesirable results.

How do I know if my transaction will be secure?
To ensure that your transaction will be secure, there are a couple of things you should look for.
  - The URL for the page should begin with “https://”. This indicates that the page is sent using SSL and is encrypted.
  - Look for the padlock symbol on your browser window. Most browsers now have this symbol right next to the URL bar where you type the website address.

I see the company name Blackbaud on your security seal; Who are they?
 - Blackbaud is the company that develops the software that is used for the UCalgary’s Net Community.

Why is their name on UCalgary’s security certificate?
The UCalgary’s Net Community is hosted by Blackbaud. That means that we are using their servers to run our Net Community.

Does that mean that my information going to be used by Blackbaud?
No, your information will be used only by the UCalgary, only in the ways outlined in our Privacy Policy.

It says that Blackbaud is an American company. Will my information be stored in the United States?
No, in addition to their US operations, Blackbaud also has servers located in Vancouver. The UCalgary’s Net Community is run from these servers.

Member Registration

The New Member Registration Form is asking me for a User ID and Password. Where do I get one?
When you are first signing up for Net Community you are being prompted to make up the User ID and the Password to you want to use for your membership.

Profile Update

I have updated my profile to make my information private but, when I look at my directory listing, everything still shows up. What gives?
It is a bit of a quirk in the system that you will be shown all of your information when you view your profile because the system knows that it is you looking at your own record. If anyone else was to look at your profile in the directory, they would only see the items that you have indicated are not private.

Directory

I prefer not to be listed in the directory. What can I do? If you would prefer not to be listed in the Net Community and/or Alumni Directory please send an email to netcommunitysupport@ucalgary.ca stating your preference.

Email Forwarding

I’m a member of Net Community, but when I go to the Email Forwarding page, it still won’t let me sign up. What’s going on?
The Email Forwarding service is set up to be available for alumni of the University of Calgary. If you are not an alum of UCalgary (i.e. if you are a current student or a community member), you are not automatically granted access to set up an email forwarding address.

Please note that for the purpose of email forwarding, "alumni" is defined as someone who has received a degree from the Unviersity of Calgary. If you completed a Residency or PhD work but did not receive your degree from UCalgary, this service may not be available to you.

If you are an alumni and are experiencing this same issue, email us at netcommunitysupport@ucalgary.ca so we can look into the issue further for you.

I am not an alum of UCalgary, can I still get Email Forwarding?
If you are not an alum of the UCalgary but would still like to sign up for an alumni forwarding address, please contact the Alumni Office at 403-220-8500.

How can I change the address that my email is being forwarded to?
Log in to Net Community and visit the Email Forwarding Form. Change the Forwarding Address to the address at which you would like to receive your email and click Update.

Can I change my Email Forwarding Address?
Visit the Email Forwarding Form, change the Incoming Email Address to the address that you want to give out and click Update.

Who is eligible for Email Forwarding
Alumni of the University of Calgary. (Defined as someone who has completed and received a degree from the University.)

Do I get webmail?
No the messages will just be sent to the email address you chose to forward them too.

What's @alumni.ucalgary.ca  I want @ucalgary.ca

The University of Calgary is no longer able to offer the alumni email forwarding service for @ucalgary.ca email addresses.

The University of Calgary Alumni Email service is currently under review. During this time, if you have any questions regarding keeping your @ucalgary.ca email address, please contact alumni@ucalgary.ca.

That said, you are still eligible to establish an @alumni.ucalgary.ca email address that will be routed to your preferred address (could be an email account at home, work, or through an independent internet service such as gmail, hotmail, etc.).

I graduated before 2008, can I still get email forwarding?
Absolutely, all alumni are eligible to establish an @alumni.ucalgary.ca email address that will be routed to your preferred address (could be an email account at home, work, or through an independent internet service such as gmail, hotmail, etc.). However, this new alumni.ucalgary.ca address will not be connected to your previous ucalgary.ca email.

Can I still check my email messages through webmail?
No the messages will just be sent to the email address you chose to forward them too.

My friend sent me a message and I still haven't received it, what's happening?
This forwarding routing email server and will apply industry-standard screening and filtering rules to your email to protect you from spam which may mean a slight delay. This routing will mean that the sender may not receive a bounce-back if the message has not been delivered. As this is a routing service, histories of email sent are not retained.

What email addresses can I forward too?
Hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc.  Chose an email address you will be using for a long time.  Work addresses change to change so are not recommended. Additionally, we do not reccomend using an existing ucalgary.ca email address.

I still have questions, who do I contact?
Email us at netcommunitysupport@ucalgary.ca if your questions was not answered here.
