The Holly Ellsworth-Clark
Memorial Scholarship Fund
September 8, 2020 - The wrestling community is deeply saddened by the loss of Holly Ellsworth-Clark.
Holly was a courageous, ferociously passionate, and bright spirited young woman who left an indelible impact on the Dinos wrestling room. During her varsity career, she was a four-time Canada West Champion and three-time CIS (U SPORTS) Champion. She also represented Canada at the Junior Pan American Championships where she won gold. But Holly’s legacy is far greater than the culmination of her many podium performances. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her passion, and inimitable spirit.
Standing 6’0” tall, Holly was already a unique athlete on the Dinos varsity wrestling team. She was well known for her unorthodox, funky techniques and outstanding Canada West team dual wins. Holly was a standout not because of her size and wrestling style, but because of her kindness and love that infused all of the relationships with her teammates. She will be remembered for her joy for the sport of wrestling, as someone who lived life of their own terms and who was fiercely committed to doing the right thing. The ethos of the sport of wrestling is that all are welcome; the community embraces the unspoken rule that once you wrestle, you are family.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016, Holly Ellsworth-Clark began exploring a new passion in the form of music: writing and performing as a solo artist and as part of a band, Deep Bight.
The creation of the Holly Ellsworth-Clark Memorial Award is to celebrate the lasting impact of this young woman and to provide a legacy to student athletes at the University of Calgary who embody the values of passion, kindness, and authenticity. The goal for this fund is to raise $25,000 to establish a memorial scholarship which will fund a portion of tuition and mandatory fees for eligible wrestling student-athletes in perpetuity.
