Macy Boyce Memorial Award
On Friday, June 17, 2022, Macy Michelle Boyce’s life, and the life of her boyfriend, Ethan Halford was tragically cut short when Macy’s car was hit and pushed into an oncoming semi-truck. The driver of the vehicle, which initially struck Macy’s car, was charged with Impaired Driving.
At 20 years old, this beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend was an intelligent young woman looking forward to starting her fourth year at the University of Calgary, excited to return to in-person learning.
Macy was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, International Relations degree. Macy loved to learn and appreciated that she was able to pursue post-secondary studies and found her community at the University of Calgary.
Macy was a young person with such promise and was excited to discover where her education and experiences would lead. She was actively pursuing the many opportunities available to someone with ambition, an openness to adventure and a deeply caring heart.
An avid traveller who eagerly sought out new experiences, cities, and cultures, she was making plans to go abroad for a semester to study and practice her French bilingualism.
Macy loved her family and friends fiercely and always offered a helping hand to those in need.
Macy’s maturity and sense of personal responsibility were due in part to her participation in the Calgary Police Cadet Corps; she aged out of the program in 2019 with the rank of Sergeant.
An advocate of women’s rights, animal welfare and social justice, Macy was known for speaking out for causes she believed in. At her core, Macy believed all people deserve respect, kindness and equality.
Funny, outgoing, and vibrant, those who knew Macy best recognized that she was also reflective and thoughtful. She affected the lives of everyone she met for the better.
As an ongoing celebration of her bright and beautiful but too-brief life, a Scholarship Fund has been established with the University of Calgary to ensure Macy’s legacy and love of learning lives on. Macy would have wanted others to have the learning opportunities she had been fortunate to experience. Macy’s family and friends hope this scholarship will continue her positive impact on the world by helping change the lives of future students in similar learning streams in achieving their dreams and goals while pursuing their undergraduate degrees.
An endowment (minimum of $25,000 required to create) will generate interest yearly to support this scholarship in perpetuity, carrying on Macy’s legacy.
Your gift will support future students and ensure Macy can continue helping others. Thank you for considering this, and please share this page with those you think may want to be aware of this endeavour.
A tribute gift is a unique way for friends and family to honour a loved one, celebrate an achievement or mark a milestone. And Giving Day is an excellent opportunity to top up an established commemorative or named award, with your gift having double the impact. All eligible Giving Day donations made between April 4th and April 18 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $2,500 per gift while matching funds last.
